ʻHarveyʼ Cardiac Patient Mannequins
Ê»Harveyʼ is a cardiac patient simulator. MVM has two. One is in the Chancellor’s building Little France, and the other is in the Medical Eductaion Centre at the Western General campus.
Ê»Harveyʼ can simulate normal heart and pulse rhythms and a variety of abnormal heart conditions. It is made of an arrangement of mechanical gears to cause the mannequin to move (to “pulse”) in a variety of modes, simulating normal or severe cardiac conditions, and computer software which generates audio counterparts to these.
It is used to help students experience and learn about heart conditions without need for real patients.
The Harveys are also used as part of undergraduate yearly assessment during the hands-on OSCE exams.
From time to time, Harvey needs its mechanical and software parts re- synchronising. If you find that the Harvey is not working or synchronised correctly, or require help in using it, please contact us.
